1963 MORRIS MINI 850

This car was bought by my mum and dad in 1965 and has been in the family ever since. I retrieved it from my brother’s farm back in 1995 when my kids were looking for a paddock basher for our rural property. After a short time back at home, nostalgia and memories got the better of me and I decided I to restore it.

I then commenced the restoration project which lasted until approximately 2010.

Since then, I have used it as my fun, joy ride vehicle under NSW club rego. Unfortunately, I never logged the odometer when I got it, but I am estimating I would have done somewhere between one and two thousand miles since the restoration. It now has 75,263 miles.

I have recently retired and moved into an over 50’s Lifestyle village and no longer have the room to keep it. Subsequently, the reluctant sale.

With respect to the restoration, my overall objective was to restore it back to original, and not make any modifications.  Sure, I could have spent more and done more, but at the end of the day, I think it’s an OK restoration job.

However, it is a 62-year-old car, and it has a few issues.

I won’t list those issues now, but I certainly would be only too happy to discuss them with any interested parties.

The main things done during the restoration included:

  • Stripped back to bare metal and sand blasted.
  • New paint in Iceberg blue (Its original colour)
  • Motor rebuild.
  • Overhauled brakes with new shoes and machined drums.
  • New roof lining, boot, door and window seals.

The Mini was rebuilt in 1997 with all original and period correct parts.
Purchased in 2003 from the Bergans at Mini Moke World Brookvale
with 9020 miles on clock.
Now it has 22000 miles, just 13000 miles in 21 years.
This vehicle has been loved and garaged for the past 21 years,
driven at least monthly during my ownership.
It has been serviced for the last 15 years+ by Greg Malure at Mini
Classic in Ermington.

The Head has been modified to run unleaded petrol.
This Cooper S has been kept in top notch condition, refurbed with
period correct parts. Including smiths rev taco.
New valves in stainless steel, clutch and flywheel, water pump,
radiator, valves, timing cover, axle seals, CV joints, clutch kit, brake
master cylinder, carburettor, heater and fan, all in top notch
