NSW State Motorkhana

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Round 3 of the NSW Motorkhana Championship has been downgraded to a Multi Club and will be conducted on Sunday 1st May.
This event was due to be held over the 2 days of 30th April / 1st May in Armidale by New England Sporting Car Club.
The local council has insisted the concrete skidpan venue must be wet down at all times during the running of any motorkhana to reduce tyre noise.
The motorkhana panel was originally hoping the council would lift water restrictions for a state championship round but this request has failed.
Unfortunately a wet concrete skidpan is unsuitable for motorkhana specials which are the vehicles vying for the championship.
I hope this does not cause any problems with the necessary changes that need to place.

Round 3 of the NSW State Motorkhana Championship which will be held at Armidale.  Run by New England Sporting Car Club, contact Clerk of Course, Richard Opie on 0418 668 174 for further information.  **Note: This is a two day event with Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

“Mini Kingdom on Line Show and Shine”

The day started early for lots of people, myself and Joan Vaughan included: we were on the road by 6:45am heading to Mulgrave for an arrival at about 8:00am.

We were greeted by a hive of activity: many cars had arrived early and lots of special displays were being created; Grahame Russell, the Sharp brothers, and Rocky Canto had brought along their race cars, along with some other special Minis for display.

Grant Welsh directed us to our parking spot, and it was on with the rest of what we were there for: conducting the Show and Shine for John Smidt and Mini Kingdom on Line.

By about 10:30am over 85 cars had turned up. Guest of honour, motoring legend Bob Holden, was mingling with everyone and posing for pictures with people and their cars and signing many autographs. What a legend within the Mini fraternity Bob is. Thank you to Bob Holden for attending and giving so freely of his time; I hope he enjoyed the day as much as the rest of us did.

With the sun shining it certainly had everything going for it to be a great day. The rain stayed away, except for about a thirty second sprinkle. Entries started rolling in for the Show and Shine, and Joan was kept very busy processing paperwork, while I did my best at convincing people to help out and do some judging on the day.
You know it is not too difficult being a judge, all you have to do is look at minis with a bit of a critical eye and compare different cars against each other; not really all that difficult.

Thank you to all of the judges who “volunteered” on the day. Please remember if we did not have volunteers to be judges there would be no winners, and I personally, along with everyone else involved on the day, would again like to thank all those people that gave their time and effort to be a judge on the day.

Thank you must also go to John Smidt and his tireless team of volunteers: cooking the sausage sizzle and supplying cold drinks on the day, with sales of other memorabilia, total proceeds of $710 are being donated to “StJohn of God Healthcare Hospital Windsor”.

While thanking people I must include all those mini owners that turned up on the day and made it so special and memorable. Without the tireless effort of Mini owners like yourselves who take pride in showing your truly fabulous cars we would not be able to have such great outings and events to attend.

I think you will all agree it was a great day, and can only hope it is an annual event, congratulations to all the winners and runners up in the show and shine.

hope to see you out and about at the next event.

Regards Rob Weir,
Mini Enthusiast Chairman,
Mini Car Club of NSW.
